Depending on the procedure and the patient\u2019s health, the anaesthesia may be general, where the patient is asleep, or spinal, where the lower part of the body is numbed. The anaesthesia team also monitors the patient throughout the operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pain and soreness are expected after surgery, especially during the first few days. Hospitals use a combination of pain medicines and other techniques to keep discomfort under control. Pain usually improves gradually as the tissues heal and the patient starts moving more comfortably. Some swelling and muscle soreness can also occur during the early recovery period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The amount of pain varies from person to person and also depends on the type of hip surgery. Severe or increasing pain, especially if accompanied by fever, wound drainage, unusual swelling, or sudden difficulty walking, should be reported to the treating team. Good pain control helps patients move earlier and participate more effectively in rehabilitation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Patients should tell the team if pain is preventing sleep, walking, breathing exercises, or participation in physiotherapy, because pain control can usually be adjusted. At the same time, complete absence of discomfort is not always realistic immediately after major surgery.
