In orthopaedics, robotic systems are most commonly used for selected joint replacement procedures, especially knee replacement. The technology may help with measurements, bone preparation, implant positioning, and checking alignment during surgery.<\/p>\n<p>The word &#8220;robotic&#8221; can be misleading because the robot does not independently decide what to do or perform the operation on its own. The orthopaedic surgeon remains responsible for the procedure and controls the system. Different robotic platforms work in different ways; some use a robotic arm while others provide navigation or computer-guided assistance.<\/p>\n<p>Robotic technology is a tool, not a separate type of implant or a guarantee of a perfect result. The outcome still depends on proper patient selection, surgeon experience, implant choice, safe surgical technique, and rehabilitation. Patients should ask which system is being used and how it is expected to help in their particular case.<\/p>\n<p>Patients should also know that different hospitals may use the term \u2018robotic surgery\u2019 for different systems. Some platforms require pre-operative scans, while others create a map during surgery.
