It is common for a replaced knee to feel warmer than the other knee for several weeks or even months. Healing tissues receive increased blood flow, and this can create warmth around the joint. Mild warmth that gradually reduces, especially when the wound is healing and the patient’s movement is improving, is usually part of normal recovery.

Warmth may be more noticeable after physiotherapy, walking, or at the end of the day. It can occur along with mild swelling and stiffness. Rest, elevation, and ice used according to the care team’s instructions may help. Patients should monitor the overall pattern. Normal postoperative warmth should slowly improve rather than become more intense.

Warmth should be checked promptly if it is accompanied by increasing redness, worsening pain, rapidly increasing swelling, wound discharge, fever, chills, or feeling unwell. These can be signs of infection or another complication. Calf pain, chest pain, or shortness of breath also needs urgent medical attention because it may indicate a blood clot. If the patient is unsure, it is safer to contact the surgical team. Dr. Atul Mishra can examine the knee and arrange blood tests, imaging, or other investigations when needed.

Yes.
