How accurate is robotic knee replacement compared to manual surgery?

Robotic Surgery 1 min read Updated October 1, 2026

Robotic knee replacement can improve the accuracy and consistency of bone cuts, limb alignment, and implant positioning compared with conventional manual techniques. The robotic system provides detailed measurements and real-time guidance that can help the surgeon carry out the planned implant position more consistently.

Studies comparing robotic-assisted and conventional knee replacement have generally found fewer alignment outliers with robotic techniques. This means the final implant position may be more likely to remain within the surgeon’s planned alignment range.

However, greater technical accuracy does not automatically mean that every patient will experience less pain, better movement, or a longer-lasting implant. Recovery and long-term results are influenced by many factors, including soft-tissue balance, implant selection, rehabilitation, overall health, and the quality of the surgery itself.

Dr. Atul Mishra uses robotic assistance as a precision tool rather than as a replacement for surgical judgement. He evaluates alignment, ligament balance, movement, and the patient’s individual anatomy during the procedure and adjusts the plan when necessary.
